Editorial Policy

Last Updated: April 29, 2026

Cost of Living Wire is committed to accurate, fair, independent journalism. This policy explains the standards that govern our reporting, sourcing, corrections process, and relationship with advertisers, affiliates, and readers.

Mission:

Our mission is to provide clear, timely, factual reporting on the cost of living in the United States. We focus on the prices, policies, and economic conditions that directly affect household finances.

Accuracy and sourcing:

We do not publish factual claims without a source basis. Our reporting relies on primary documents, official datasets, direct reporting, public statements, filings, interviews, and other credible evidence. When a number or claim matters, we work to show readers where it came from.

Original work:

Our goal is to publish original reporting, original analysis, and clearly attributed source-based journalism. When we reference another outlet’s reporting, we credit that work and do not present it as our own.

Editorial independence:

Advertisers, sponsors, affiliates, and commercial partners do not control editorial coverage. They do not review or approve articles before publication. Sponsored content, when present, must be clearly labeled and visually distinct from newsroom content.

Bylines and transparency:

Every article should display a clear author byline. Author pages should identify the writer, role, and relevant background. Articles should also display publication date and updated date when material changes are made after publication.

Image and data attribution:

We use original, licensed, public-domain, or otherwise authorized images. Image credits should appear visibly when an article includes a non-original image. Charts, tables, and data-based claims should identify their underlying source when appropriate.

Corrections policy:

If we publish a factual error, we correct it promptly and transparently. Material corrections should be noted on the article with the date of correction and a short explanation of what changed.

Conflicts of interest:

Staff and contributors must disclose conflicts that could reasonably affect or appear to affect their coverage. Where appropriate, disclosures are added to the article or handled internally through editorial assignment decisions.

Reader tips and source protection:

We welcome reader tips and review them through normal reporting and verification standards. We protect confidential sources when warranted and lawful.
